In today’s world, reviews rule any industry. Whether customers are looking to try a new restaurant, fun activity, or find a plumber, consumers relies on another’s experience to choose a company to give his or her business to. Nearly 50% of customers form an opinion of you based on three or less reviews making your most recent reviews crucial.

Where are people basing their opinions from?

According to several studies, Google and Facebook have become No. 1 and No. 2 for online reviews. On the other hand, sites that focus primarily on reviews (like TripAdvisor) are seeing less growth than Facebook and Google.

Any consumer would choose “A”.

The company that has lots of reviews and high ratings without hesitation. Google yourself and put yourself in a potential prospect’s place, will you get that first call? If the answer is no, there is no telling how much business you are missing out on.

Understandably it can be difficult to encourage customers to write a review. Maybe you tried mentioning reviews in-person, handing out business cards, or even offering incentives with no success. Instead of futile efforts, try the three modern rules to obtaining great reviews:

ASK

  • Ask and you shall receive: this is key to obtaining genuine feedback. Moreover, this is also referred to as the 90/10 rule. Five percent of customers who LOVED your service or product will leave you a review without having to be asked. The other five percent who had a negative experience will also leave a review no matter what. The key is to tap into the other ninety percent of customers who had a good experience and would leave a review but just need to be asked. By sending a request, this 90% of consumers will leave a positive review that showcases your service and business.
MAKE IT EASY

  • Besides requesting a review, you want to make it incredibly simple. Sending a text message or email is not only convenient for the customer but for you as well! “The proportion of people accessing the internet from mobile devices has risen from 23 percent in 2010 to 84 percent now [2018]. Smartphone e-mail use jumped from 21 to 79 percent…” (MIT). By providing a direct link to any smart device, clients will be able to leave a stellar review in less than 60 seconds prompting five stars for your company, keeping present customers happy and appealing to potential consumers.
REMIND

  • Life gets busy and we often forget even the smallest of tasks on accident. Do not let reviews slip past your company because it may have slipped someone’s mind. An automatic notification system that gently reminds clients to leave a review is the best way to collect those five stars for your company.
These guidelines are imperative to generating numerous, current, and good reviews. Although reviews may seem to be only one component of your online presence, it is the most important component because “92% of consumers are reading online reviews” and furthermore, “44% say a review must be written within one month to be relevant.” (vendasta.com).
